Given our location, the CIC National Capital Branch aims to be a pro-active participant in the foreign affairs community in the National Capital Region and beyond. We support the CIC's research vocation by fostering greater dialogue among public policy makers, academia and the private sector.

OUR APRIL - JUNE PROGRAM: the Hon. John Manley, former Deputy Prime Minister, newly appointed President and CEO of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, will speak to us at a dinner event on Monday, April 12. When suitable dates can be identified, future speakers will include: the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, former Prime Minister and Finance Minister; and Louise Arbour; former Supreme Court Justice, former UN Commissioner for Human Rights, currently President and CEO of the International Crisis Group. The Branch is also planning a series of networking events/speeches focused on the interests of young professionals and others working on Parliament Hill - "The World on the Hill". We will post details on this website and inform Branch members by e-mail as soon as event details have been finalized.

Click on the above to access the background material and reports prepared for this major public conference, held in Ottawa on January 21 and 22, 2010. The conference looked at the principal issues, players, crisis generators and governance in five years time. Speakers from Canada and abroad provided a fresh perspective and considered what it all means for Canada and Canadian policies.
