GPS e-Conference
Welcome to the GPS e-Conference!
The CIC has embarked on a major foreign policy mapping initiative this year, the Global Positioning Strategy (GPS) Project, which intends to generate fresh perspectives and ideas about Canada's priorities in international affairs. We invite you to begin by viewing the introductory video of GPS Project co-director and former Editor-in-Chief of the Globe and Mail, Ed Greenspon. Please register to participate in CIC's GPS e-conference series, your opportunity to engage with our network of experts and interested Canadians.
Session 2: Security and Reconstruction (March 11)
The Canadian military has been involved in Afghanistan since 2002. This constitutes the largest expeditionary mission that the Canadian military has been engaged in since the Korean War. Afghanistan is Canada's largest ever bilateral aid recipient and is the centerpiece of Canadian foreign policy. The lessons learned from Canada's mission will be discussed long after the Canadian Forces withdraw in 2011.
Featured Moderator: Taylor Owen (Doctoral Candidate and Trudeau Scholar at the University of Oxford). Expert Contributors: Mark Sedra (Senior Fellow, Centre for International Governance Innovation), Major-General David Fraser (Project Director and Commander-designate for the Canadian Forces' new JHQ), Sarah Jane Meharg (Adjunct Professor, Royal Military College of Canada and Senior Research Associate, Pearson Peacekeeping Centre), Ben Rowswell (Representative of Canada in Kandahar)
